Objective: To learn several note-taking strategies to use while researching nonfiction topics.
1. The Cornell Method:
- Use the main section for notes
- Use the left margin for questions/topics corresponding to notes
- Write the summary of your notes at the bottom
2. The Mapping Method
- Start with the main topic
- Branch off the main topic, creating subtopics
- Write important notes under each subtopic
- Continue the pattern
3. The Outlining Method
- Begin with the main topic
- Place the first subtopic below and indented to the right
- List any details below your subtopic and slightly to the right
4. The Charting Method
- The page is divided into columns by category
- The details of each category are filled out in the rows below
