Static & Dynamic Characters
Objective: To understand what static & dynamic characters are and which is which in “AMND.”
* All characters in a story are either dynamic or static.
Static Character: One who doesn’t undergo any significant change in character, personality, or perspective throughout the story.
- Same at the end as in the beginning.
- May have life and environment changes, but persona, confidence, and appeal stays the same.
- Heroic and charismatic characters work better as static characters.
Examples: Superman, Lisa, Sherlock Holmes, Tom Sawyer, Hannibal Lecter.
Dynamic Characters: One who undergoes a major change in character, personality or perspective throughout a story.
- Easier to write about them.
- Life transition, coming-of-age, trials and tribulations, mature, change of heart, become more likeable or unlikeable.
Example: The Grinch, Ebenezer Scrooge, Harry Potter
